Your Guide to Understanding Allergan Natrelle® Breast Implants

Before undergoing breast augmentation, there is a lot of information that patients must become familiar with and many decisions that they must make. To make this process easier, here is your guide to understanding Allergan Natrelle® Breast Implants, which are Dr. Taylor’s primary implant choice for breast augmentation.
A Brief Overview of Silicone Breast Implants
Here are some important characteristics of silicone breast implants:
- FDA approval: Silicone breast implants are approved for use in breast augmentation for women ages 22 and older and for breast reconstruction procedures.
- Appearance: Silicone mimics the look and feel of natural breast tissue.
- Size: The size of a breast implant is measured in cubic centimeters (cc’s) of volume and does not correspond to cup size. The larger the number of cc’s, the larger the implant.
- Shape: Natrelle® Breast Implants are all round, which makes the breasts appear fuller and poses no cosmetic concern if the implant rotates.
- Texture: Smooth implants move freely within the breast pocket and provide the softest, most natural result possible. Textured breast implants grab hold of the surrounding tissue, making them less likely to shift within the breast pocket. However, they are more feelable and are more prone to palpable and visible skin ripples.
- Profile: High profile implants project out further from the chest wall and have a narrower diameter than low profile implants. Moderate plus implants have a higher projection than moderate implants but will have the same base width.
About Allergan Natrelle® Breast Implants
Natrelle® Silicone-Filled Breast Implants are made of a silicone elastomer shell filled with a soft, cohesive silicone gel. These implants come in a single lumen round design with varying textures, profiles, and size ranges. Natrelle® INSPIRA™ Breast Implants, the newest and most advanced silicone implants, are also made of a silicone elastomer shell filled with a soft, cohesive silicone gel. They also come in a single lumen round design with varying profiles and size ranges. Two key differences between these two implant types are that Natrelle® INSPIRA™ Breast Implants have a higher gel fill (meaning less skin ripple issues) and are only available with a smooth surface while Natrelle® Silicone-Filled Breast Implants can be smooth or textured.
