Excess fat under the chin that causes the appearance of a double chin can be unflattering. Often, this can cause a person to become insecure about doing activities that draw a lot of attention to the face, such as having a picture taken. Many people would like to get rid of submental fullness (under-chin fat) but don’t want to undergo invasive surgeries such as liposuction that may involve recovery time and pain associated with bruising and swelling. KYBELLA® is a non-surgical treatment that is approved by the FDA to target fat beneath the chin. Patients can experience noticeable and permanent fat reduction after a series of treatment sessions.
Benefits
- Safe and effective
- Minimally invasive
- Destroys fat cells
- No downtime

Candidates
Those who would like to target excess fat beneath the chin can be evaluated by Dr. Taylor during a personal consultation. To determine whether you are a good candidate for KYBELLA®, you and Dr. Taylor will discuss your goals, medical history, and medical conditions.
Be sure your medical provider is aware if you:
- Are pregnant
- Are breastfeeding

Procedure
KYBELLA® involves multiple injections of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule that aids in the breakdown and absorption of fat cells. Once the fat cells are destroyed, they cannot grow back or accumulate. KYBELLA® requires a series of treatments. The average patient will notice significant reduction of under-chin fat within two to four treatment sessions. Each treatment session will be scheduled at least one month apart.
Recovery and Results
Patients will be able to return to work immediately following treatment. Most patients experience minimal pain and go back to their normal routine after receiving KYBELLA® treatment. There is noticeable swelling in the under-chin area for several days. Complications and side effects are extremely uncommon.
Potential Side Effects of KYBELLA®
- Swelling
- Bruising
- Pain
- Numbness
- Redness
- Hardness in the treatment area
Once the series of KYBELLA® treatments has been completed, patients will notice a significant reduction in submental fullness. KYBELLA® patients are highly satisfied and experience an overall improvement in their facial appearance with contours that complement the rest of the face.
